History

Welcome to the Hunter Valley's best kept secret hideaway. The Close is tucked away in Morpeth NSW, a historic river port crowded with character on a tree-lined stretch of the Hunter River.

The Close is named after the founder of Morpeth, Lieutenant Edward Charles Close, who selected a property of 1,000 hectares in the town and developed it as a river port between 1831 and 1841. Queens Wharf, as it was named, was to become a heavily frequented river port until around 1890.

The Close was built in the 1850's and has been beautifully renovated with a modern twist to provide the perfect getaway.

Location

The Close is located in the heart of the historic village of Morpeth, a short walk to café’s, restaurants, boutiques and art galleries and is the ideal accommodation for visitors to discover everything historic Morpeth has to offer.

The Close is positioned in the heart of the Hunter Region and close driving proximity to Newcastle and Hunter Valley Wine country (both 35 mins), Port Stephens, including Nelson Bay (45 mins) and Maitland (10 mins). With easy access to the M1 and two hours drive from Sydney.
